6 Baby Super Apps from around the globe
Wechat and Alipay are the two Super Apps that everybody envies. They are China`s American dream success story that Hollywood has not dared yet to make into a blockbuster movie. Maybe Netflix will launch a series.
Paypal and Square not the only wannabe Super Apps in the West. We have Wise, Revolut and Walmart, and maybe even Klarna. Turkey seems to be thirsty to become part of this with Ozan. Papara also aspires to become one too, in South East Asia. Latin America also has Rappi and Mercado Libre as potential contenders. Japan has Kakao and Line.
“Can you imagine that, it is like a parallel universe with two super apps,” I said to a friend? “I don’t know what they are called but the features and functions seem to be so advanced.”
“That’s Wechat and Alipay!” she replied.
The story goes on about how we have been living in a fog of ignorance until now that China has catapulted us into this new dimension of payments through these two companies.
It was the year 2021. Paypal and Square were struggling to maintain relevance in a world where WeChat and Alipay had all but saturated every aspect of society. It would be an understatement to say that this new-age tech is taking over the world, they are rapidly displacing more traditional systems like banks with their innovative solutions for transactions, loans, peer-to-peer lending, investments, insurance services and other financial services while also integrating into daily life with ride-sharing apps like Didi Chuxing or food delivery service Eleme. But it wasn’t just these two companies that were bringing change; there was Turkey’s Ozan (who has now followed suit), Papara from Indonesia who actually started earlier.
The West was hoping that Paypal, Square or Revolut could copy the Chinese success. But nobody was thinking that Ethereum had effectively built a new kind of Super App.
The Western Super Apps were taken offline by the Chinese government, so all that people used now was Ethereum’s new Super App, WeChatEtherApp.
Meanwhile, I spoke to some of these Apps, and here is what they said.
Ozan is the Turkish Super App with growing adoption.
`We’re building a new type of super app for Turkey that will make it easy to find and book any service, product or place you need. You can now search, compare and book services like restaurants, bars, hotels & more in just one tap!
With Ozan you can easily see which places are nearby and how much they cost by comparing prices from different providers at once. It’s an all-in-one solution that makes life easier for everyone — businesses get more customers while users save time and money!
Our app allows users to send and receive money using their smartphones.
The world moves fast, but sending money around the globe can be slow. With Ozan, you can easily transfer funds between friends or family members in seconds!
Send money across borders instantly with our mobile app for iOS and Android devices. No more waiting days for bank transfers or paying expensive fees to wire cash overseas. We’re your new go-to way of sending money abroad — especially when it comes to splitting bills with friends back home!`
Papara is the Indonesian Super App that gives you access to all your social media in one place.
Papara is the only platform that allows you to write, share and view content from any social media network such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and many more. No need for multiple apps!
It’s free at paparaindonesia.com.
Papara is not just an app, it’s a movement! It will change your life and make you feel like a celebrity. You can now check your Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat updates without having to open those apps individually. Just use Papara! Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that we are also developing some other cool features such as location-based services (LBS) and others… so stay tuned :)
Kakao is a messaging app that allows you to send messages, photos, and files easily between users. It’s easy to use and has many features such as stickers, voice messages etc.
Kakao is the Japanese super app! You can share videos with your friends in Japan on the go! No need for internet connection or data usage when sending videos to other KakaoTalk users. Also there are no limits on how long you can record video clips so feel free to create those epic videos!
Kakao is the Japanese Super App, but not everyone knows about it. We’re trying to get more people to use our app, but we have no budget for marketing.
If you write a blog post that mentions Kakao and links back to us in some way (either directly or through your own website), then we’ll pay you $50 USD via PayPal or bank transfer. In addition, if someone uses your link to download the app and signs up using their phone number, then we’ll also give you another $50 USD via PayPal or bank transfer. You can publish anywhere on the Internet where content gets read by English-speaking people — blogs like this one are fine! The only requirement is that you include at least one photo of a cute cat with an adorable expression in your article somewhere…
Line is a messaging app that has over 200 million users and growing.
We all know that texting and calling are the best ways to communicate, but they’re not always convenient or available.
With over 200 million active users worldwide, Line has become the most popular way for people to communicate in Japan and across the globe. It’s free to use on smartphones and computers, so you can stay connected wherever you go!
Line isn’t just any messaging app, though. It’s the Japanese Super App! The one with all the bells and whistles, like stickers, funny face filters, games to play with your friends… And it’s free! Download Line today! You can download Line on iOS or Android.
In Colombia, it’s not easy to get the food you want. There are many reasons behind this problem: a lack of variety in restaurants and supermarkets, low quality, long delivery times or high prices.
Rappi is a Colombian Super App that uses technology to deliver great food from your favorite restaurants at unbeatable prices. The app has been growing rapidly since its launch just two years ago and now delivers up to 10 million meals per month in Bogotá alone! It also offers exclusive discounts on top-quality products for those who don’t have time to cook but still want good food.
Paying for goods and services in Latin America is a mess.
In the US, you can pay with your smartphone using Apple Pay or Google Wallet. But here? Not so much. Credit cards are still king, but they’re expensive to use and inconvenient to carry around. Cash is cheap and convenient, but it’s not secure since it leaves no trace of transactions behind; this makes them prime targets for thieves looking to rob people on the street or online. Then there’s Mercado Pago, which combines credit card convenience with cash security by letting you send money from your bank account directly into someone else’s phone number via text message (SMS). It works like magic!
We’ve got just one app that does everything — from paying at stores through NFC contactless payments to sending money via SMS — and even allows you to withdraw cash from any ATM machine in Argentina without having a physical debit card! Now that’s what we call convenient
Also, if you are a merchant in Latin America, it is not easy to adopt new payment methods. You need to have a POS and customers need to learn how to use this technology.
Mercado Pago has launched an app that allows merchants in Latin America (Argentina, Brazil, Mexico) to accept payments with their smartphones or tablets without the need for any additional hardware or software. And they can do so immediately! The customer does not even need a smartphone! They simply scan the QR code generated by Mercado Pago on the merchant’s mobile phone and pay using their own credit card information stored on file with Mercado Pago. No more waiting for your customers at checkout while they fumble around looking for cash… no worries about whether they remembered their wallet… no taking out your credit card yourself either! It’s all done right there on your phone screen — secure as anything else you’ve ever used online but faster than paying with cash because it takes just seconds.
